Have you been learned?

Some great comments on Adam’s post this morning. Really makes you stop and think when you walk by those less fortunate in the cold weather. I have heard before many just want to be acknowledge like they exist instead of us staring off into the distance pretending they are not there. No connection to the human race, is probably a darker feeling than not having pennies and nickels in their cup. I have learned to look them in the eye and nod, so they know I see them. Every so often I will offer some change…and thanks to Adam’s post today will be offering some confidence and well wishes!

So, thanks for the learning opportunity. As we head into the end of another year and one that by all accounts seemed to have moved by as fast as any…I am curious what you have learned? It can be about the world, yourself, other people….whatever. I am particularly interested in hearing from THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE YET TO COMMENT. Yes you, reading this right now, thinking no one wants to here what I have to say, or other people will say it, its not that important or I don’t have time….well guess what? That is what this community is all about, simple people like me and you!! You have two easy ways to respond, click on the link below or respond directly back to me cnanka@salesforce.com

I’ll get us started…

I have learned that the older you get, the more you need to take care of your body…exercise, diet and rejuvenation.

I have learned that in times of economic strife some of the best ideas and most innovative companies are made or born

Similarly, when times are tough, its the best time to stretch your talents and really make your mark in life

I look forward to hearing and sharing what you have experienced in 2009!

    I’ve learned….

Happiness is something I must create for myself everyday. A day without some form of joy is a waste of a day. It can be found almost anywhere in my day, but it’s up to me to find it.

That EVERYTHING, absolutely everything in life is a choice – and it’s up to me to choose what’s best for me. Who cares what others think or do, it’s my life, not there’s.

All the best things in life, being married, having kids, staying fit and healthy, owning a house, running a blog…they all require effort without attitude. As the NIKE saying goes, ‘Just do it.’

Looking forward to learning from others on this post. Thank you Colin for throwing down the hammer and holding us accountable to this exercise!

I’ve learned the importance of philanthropy this year. It’s not just a tax write off. There have been a few very key reminders of this importance throughout the year. Powell’s speech at Dreamforce, a meeting I had with the Terry Fox Foundation, a thank you letter I got from a paraplegic gentleman who had his apartment painted by my team (office Foundation event). I would also put Adam’s post from yesterday right up there with these other impactful events/reminders of the year. Note: I do not rank Wiebe anywhere near Powell’s level of leadership but if I could only pick one of them to hang out with in Vegas it would be a very tough decision.
